With a median list price of $11,397,500 it’s not hard to see why beachfront homes in Hermosa Beach don’t always sell quickly. It’s still hard to believe that we now have 8 homes for sale along the beachfront strip in one of Southern California’s most sought after beach towns.
One of the more unique and oft discussed beachfront homes in Hermosa Beach just hit the market. Priced at $18,995,000 the home at 2806 The Strand is one of the biggest beachfront homes built in all of the South Bay. Sitting on a double lot with incredible beach frontage, the home offers over 6,800 square feet* on a very impressive 5,318 square foot lot. Built in 2012, the home features 6 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms. One of the more impressive features is the roof deck providing another 1,000 sq feet of area*. What has made this home oft discussed around town is the architecture, layout and design. Custom built this definitely never had the look and feel of a beach house, but instead was designed as an Italian villa. The owners and current agents did a very nice job softening up the look a bit and gone is the red exterior and replaced with a white color scheme that definitely softens and mutes the original ornate stylings and design. Listed at $18,995,000 the home was on the market back in 2017 for a fairly staggering $25,000,000. While the future buyer will likely do a major remodel and update, there is great opportunity given the size of the home and lot and the north Hermosa location is absolutely ideal.

Another addition to the crowded beachfront market in Hermosa Beach just hit the market this week at 3031 The Strand. Listed at $12,975,000 this is an older home that could be either a remodel project or tear down for new construction. The current home has a lot to offer but it’s unlikely a buyer in this range would keep the home in it’s current state. What makes this home so special is the location and lot size. The north Hermosa Beach sand section location makes for a much quieter locale compared with homes closer and south of the pier.
The oversized lot offers incredible beach frontage making for a true legacy estate property a possibility.
Beachfront home sales have been a challenge lately as the combination of a high number of homes on the market and lofty prices have made for a slow market. We recently mentioned the home at 3033 The Strand as it’s on a very nice sized lot with great beach frontage. The north Hermosa location is ideal as it’s quieter than areas down near the pier and is about equidistant from downtown areas of both Manhattan and Hermosa. Originally listed in the spring of 2019, the home came out at $19,000,000. A few price reductions later it was eventually taken off the market. It’s recently come back on for a more reasonable $14,900,000. The home was built in 1932 so it’s been an iconic property on the Strand for almost 100 years. Sitting on 45′ wide lot it’s ideally located in north Hermosa so just a bit quieter than homes closer to the pier. Although it is most likely being sold strictly for the land, the current home offers 6 bedrooms, 7 baths and a bit over 4,000 square feet.

Another recent sale on the beachfront strip known as the Strand in Hermosa Beach reveals a bit about this high end market. The home at 1534 The Strand had been on the market for quite a while and was originally listed with another agent. The home was originally priced at $11,900,000 back in June of 2019 with a number of price reductions leading up to the final list price of $9,999,000. This beachfront home eventually sold for $3.2M below the original list price which is pretty reflective of the Strand real estate market in both Hermosa and Manhattan Beach.
The home was very nice with quite an abundance of custom features. The top level was pretty spectacular and the showcase of the home with a huge deck that offered an ocean view jacuzzi, outdoor kitchen, spacious seating area and something pretty rare for Strand homes…..a bit of privacy.

The Strand is the beachfront stretch of homes in Hermosa Beach. There are a very limited number of homes in this rare location and due to the fact that there are no empty lots…..the number of beachfront homes is definitely not increasing.
That’s what makes the current market so rare….with 7 beachfront homes currently on the market. Homes range from a condo (address is beachfront but the condo itself isn’t) to a number of homes with fairly incredible prices. Although it’s been on the market for quite a while they just had a major price reduction on the beachfront duplex at 2426 The Strand in Hermosa Beach. While price reductions on homes on The Strand in Manhattan and Hermosa Beach are very common this was a big drop. The home price dropped from $19,250,000 (which was extremely aggressive) to $15,295,000. We’ll see if that makes a difference as the oceanfront home market is quite slow despite a recent uptick in home sales along the beach.
The home at 2120 The Strand in Hermosa Beach just recently accepted an offer and just changed to pending as it’s now in escrow. This was a notable sale not only due to the $10,000,000 price point, but due to the ultra high end beachfront Strand market being very slose. It’s not uncommon to see this level home sit on the market for a year or more so it’s a big deal when this level home sells. The home offers a great location for the Strand as it’s walkable to the Hermosa pier area but not too close to deal with any of the congestion. The home features 5 bedrooms and 5 baths on 3 levels and just under 3,700 square feet. List price is $9,950,000.
